The well known, Atlanta-based, landscape architecture firm Planters has been installing our boxwoods for decades, and the national award winning firm, Carson McelHeney Landscape Architecture, is also another customer that has used our boxwoods since that firm’s inception. We have numerous other reputable architects and landscape companies that use our boxwoods exclusively.

One great benefit of doing business with such quality customers is that our boxwoods have been installed in gardens and landscapes that have won numerous awards and been featured in many popular magazines. Some of the magazines include Southern Living, Better Homes & Gardens, Southern Home, Veranda, and Home and Living Trends just to name a few. Part of what separates us from all the other growers is the painstaking measures we take to make sure our boxwoods have the ideal shape. We trim in such a way that we make sure our boxwoods are as wide (if not slightly wider) than they are tall. No egg shaped or “Coke can” shaped boxwoods here! And, after we’ve found the perfect boxwood for you, we don’t haphazardly jerk your plant out of the ground. We literally measure out the root ball size with a tape measure before we start digging to ensure the root ball is more than big enough to support the boxwood through the process of moving your boxwood from our farm to your garden. Additionally, during the digging and delivery process when other growers string tie the delicate foliage needlessly breaks branches and tears off leaves and causes string burn, we wrap all our boxwoods with appropriately fitting burlap which is soft and pliable and does not damage or compromise the boxwood in any way. And, once your boxwood is dug and out of the ground, we don’t just throw a sack around it or put it in a plastic container. We take the time to carefully root prune your boxwood so there are no “J” roots when transplanted. We are careful to create the tightest wrapped root balls as possible so the plant stays healthy and whole through the entire transplanting process.

In terms of your boxwood’s upkeep and care, every year in the spring we feed our boxwoods with the highest quality fertilizer and we spread limestone by hand to ensure each plant has the perfect growing conditions to become the fullest most vigorous plant it can be. We also take careful measures throughout the year to ensure our plants are protected from the pests and diseases that are common to the species. We are continually learning and implementing the best care and practices for boxwoods so you can be assured that when your boxwood arrives at your garden, you are getting the best and healthiest boxwood in the country. And, you can know that these are not some lab or greenhouse propagated plant shipped from thousands of miles away that may or may not have acclimated your particular climate and all four seasons. Our boxwoods are rooted and grown in the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains and experience the extremes of all the seasons. The plants that are not hardy enough to survive here never make it to your garden. In the mountains we have sub zero winter temperatures with snow and ice along with summer temperatures that have been known to reach triple digits and just about every kind of rain, wind, sleet, and hail event in between. Our plants win the “tough plant” contest every day of the week!

Our encouragement to you would be to not settle for inferior, oddly shaped, questionable-health boxwoods. Invest in your property, invest in your inspiration, invest in your peace, serenity, and joy, invest in you. Get the boxwoods that are the best, get your boxwoods from Crow’s Nest!
